What to Expect at Your Child's First Taekwondo Class
Starting something new can feel big for a child, and for parents too. If you are thinking about Taekwondo for your son or daughter, here is what a first class at Master Kim's World Class Taekwondo looks like, so you can both walk in feeling ready and excited.

Before Class: How to Prepare
Arrive about 10 minutes early to meet the instructor and complete a short registration form.
If you don't have a uniform yet, comfortable athletic clothes like a T-shirt and sweatpants or shorts are perfect.
Taekwondo is practiced barefoot, so shoes and socks come off before stepping onto the mat.
Bring a water bottle, remove jewelry, and tie back long hair.
Talk with your child ahead of time. Let them know it's okay to feel a little nervous and that everyone in class was a beginner once.
What Happens During Class
Every class begins and ends with a bow. This simple tradition teaches respect for instructors, classmates, and the training space. From there, a typical class includes:
A warm-up and stretching to get the body moving safely
Basic stances, blocks, and kicks taught step by step
Fun drills and games that build focus, balance, and coordination
A short lesson on values like respect, self-control, or never giving up
Our classes are designed for each age group. Little Tigers classes (ages 4-5) are about 30 minutes, and Children's classes (ages 6-12) are about 40 minutes, which keeps students engaged from start to finish.
How Parents Can Help
Cheer for effort, not perfection. A first class is about trying, not getting everything right.
Let the instructor lead. Children often listen best when parents watch quietly and smile from the side.
Ask questions afterward, like "What was the most fun part?" This helps your child remember the good feelings of class.
Is My Child Ready for Taekwondo?
Most of our students start with no martial arts experience at all. Your child doesn't need to be athletic, flexible, or outgoing to begin. Shy children are always welcome, and we go at each student's pace. Many parents tell us their child gains confidence within just a few weeks.
Beginners start with basic techniques, and our instructors teach control and safety from the very first class.
